Forms that use a 50 KB limit
| Upload | Typical rule | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SSC photograph | 20–50 KB, JPG | Use the SSC page for 200 × 230 px and name-date strip |
| IBPS / RRB / SBI photograph | 20–50 KB, 200 × 230 px | Left thumb impression is also 20–50 KB |
| State police and teacher recruitment | often 20–50 KB | Check the min KB too |
| Photo + signature in one image | often under 50 KB | Use the joiner tool |
Many forms with a 50 KB maximum also have a 20 KB minimum. This page targets the maximum only; the SSC and IBPS pages handle both ends of the range.

Why 50 KB is such a common limit
Recruitment boards receive lakhs of applications in a few weeks. A 50 KB cap keeps their servers fast while still allowing a clear face photo. That is why the SSC, the IBPS and many state boards use a band of 20–50 KB for the candidate photograph. For you, 50 KB is actually a generous budget: a well-lit, tightly cropped face photo looks excellent at that size.
The difficulty is only that phone cameras produce files 50 to 100 times larger. This page closes that gap without any app, account or upload.
Common rejection reasons and fixes
“Size must be at least 20 KB.” The opposite problem — a small, plain photo can compress to 10 KB. Use a page with a minimum setting (SSC, IBPS or the home page) so the file is kept inside the band.
“Photo not clear” during document verification. Upload filters only check size, but a person checks your face later at the exam centre. Use a recent photo with your face clearly visible, without a cap or dark glasses.
Photo older than allowed. Several notices say the photo must be recent (for example, not older than three months). Compressing an old photo will not fix this; take a new one.
Stretched or squashed face. Some resizers force a size without keeping the shape. Here the crop frame keeps proportions, so your face is never distorted.
Uploaded the wrong file. Phones save downloads with similar names. Files from this tool are named with the KB target, like image-under-50kb.jpg, so they are easy to find.
A quick quality check before you upload
Open the downloaded file and zoom in on your eyes. If they look sharp, the photo is good to go. If the photo looks grainy, the original was taken in poor light — retake it near a window in daylight. Better light gives a cleaner picture and a smaller file, which leaves more room in the 50 KB for detail.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a photo to 50 KB on my phone?
Open this page in Chrome or any browser, tap Choose photo, pick the image from your gallery and tap Download JPG. There is no app to install, and it works on slow connections because the photo is never sent anywhere.
My form says 20 KB to 50 KB. Which tool should I use?
If it is an SSC or bank exam, use those pages — they set both the KB range and the 200 × 230 pixel size. For any other form, use the home page, type 20 in Min KB and 50 in Max KB, and enter the pixel size if one is given.
Does compressing to 50 KB reduce the photo quality a lot?
Usually not. A typical 200 × 230 passport-style photo is only 8 to 15 KB at very high quality. Even a large 1600-pixel photo can stay sharp at 50 KB. The tool lowers quality only as far as needed.
Why did the width and height of my image change?
When an image is very large or very detailed, quality reduction alone may not reach 50 KB without looking bad. In that case the tool also scales the picture down slightly. The shape stays the same, and the new size is shown in the After box.
Can I convert PNG or HEIC to a JPG under 50 KB?
Yes. Choose the PNG, WEBP or HEIC file as usual. The download is a genuine JPEG, which is what almost every government portal accepts.
