If a portal asks for a PDF rather than an image, use the JPG to PDF tool, which can also keep the PDF under 100 KB.

How to use

  1. Pick Under 100 KB or Under 200 KB at the top of the tool.
  2. Choose the image — a photo, a scan or a screenshot of a document.
  3. Zoom so the paper or your face fills the frame and the table or floor is cropped away.
  4. Tap Download JPG; the file is always under the limit you picked.

Documents need a different approach than photos

A face photo and a certificate behave very differently when compressed. Faces have soft, smooth areas that JPEG handles well. Documents have sharp black text on white paper, and text becomes fuzzy first when quality drops. That is why document uploads usually have bigger limits like 100 KB or 200 KB — and why it pays to use the whole budget wisely.

The best trick is cropping. A phone photo of a certificate lying on a bed includes the bedsheet, your fingers and shadows. All of that costs kilobytes. Zoom in until only the paper is inside the frame, and suddenly the same 100 KB is spent entirely on the text.

Common rejection reasons and fixes

“Document not legible.” The scan was taken at an angle or in yellow room light. Lay the paper flat near a window, hold the phone parallel to it and retake.

“File exceeds 200 KB” when uploading a phone scan. Scanner apps often save at very high resolution. Run the image through this page with 200 KB selected.

“Invalid file type.” Many scanner apps save as PNG or as a PDF. Use this page for images, and the PDF compressor for PDFs.

Front and back in one image required. Some portals want both sides of an ID card in one file. Use the JPG to PDF tool for a two-page PDF, or put both sides in one photo before resizing.

Rotated document. If the page is sideways, tap Rotate 90° in the tool before downloading. Reviewers may reject documents they have to turn to read.

100 KB vs 200 KB at a glance

At 200 KB, a full A4 page photographed in good light keeps even small print readable. At 100 KB, normal-size text remains clear, but tiny footnotes may blur. If you have a choice, use the larger limit for marksheets and the smaller one for simple ID cards.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose 100 KB or 200 KB?

Use the exact number your form shows. If it says 'maximum 200 KB', choose 200 — a larger budget keeps small text on certificates easier to read. If it says 100 KB, choose 100; the tool will reduce quality a little more.

How do I reduce a scanned certificate to 100 KB without the text becoming unreadable?

Take the photo straight from above in daylight, crop to the paper edges, and let the tool compress. A full A4 page usually stays readable at 100 KB. If text is still blurry, check whether the portal accepts 200 KB or a PDF.

Can I compress a PDF to 100 KB here?

This page is for images. For a PDF file, use the Compress PDF to 100 KB tool, which re-saves each page at a smaller size and keeps the whole PDF under your target.

My file is already 80 KB. Do I need this?

If it is already a JPG under the limit with the right pixel size, you can upload it as it is. If it is a PNG or HEIC, convert it here, because many portals reject those formats even when the size is fine.

Is there a limit on how big my original photo can be?

No fixed limit, but very large images (over about 50 megapixels) can be slow on older phones. Normal phone photos and scans open in a second or two.
